Hello Yankee strolls in Starter Allowance

Champion jockey Wilmer Galviz had the American-bred three-year-old in the firing line from the off in the 1750 metres race and he cruised to a comfortable one and three-quarter-length victory. The day, despite some very small fields, turned up quite a few upsets biggest of which came in the Conditional Handicap A race over 1600 metres on the turf course, when Soundsgoodtume came to the wire ahead of his field to reward backers with $$39.20 and $5.90 on the tote.

With favourite Captain America finishing second and Sure Wager third, the trifecta was a good $1,328.00 and with Life In The Sky fourth, the superfecta paid $1,518.40.

Another big surprise winner was Fortheloveofit who returned $34.00 and $9.20 on the tote, with runner-up Skippy’s Dream paying $12.20.

Along with Fairytale Romance the third placed finisher, the trifecta was a most handsome $4,920.60, but turfites failed to spot the fourth horse to land the trifecta which showed a $6,208.11 carry-over. The day opened with a shock winner in Saint Valentine who was surrendering his maiden certificate and paying $26.80 and $7.50 on the tote and Cuatro Tempo was a mild surprise winner of the fifth to reward backers with $14.80 and $6.10.

Young apprentice Nela Mohammed continued his good riding form landing another double on the 10-race programme, same as Galviz.

But it was a day when popular trainer Emmanuel “Jules” Miller would saddle a double for the first time this season.

Next raceday is Guineas Day, when the first leg of the local triple crown will be run off along with the Eric “Colt” Durant Memorial Handicap.
