Students told to report sexual abuse

Students of the Sacred Hearts Boys’ RC, Laventille Junior Life Centre and Nelson Street Boys’ Primary schools visited the museum in commemoration of International Museum’s Day.

Prince speaking at the Police Museum on Vincent Street, warned students that if anyone should threaten them or touch their body in a sexual manner, it should be reported to the police.

“Your body is precious. It is an offence, do not feel ashamed,” Prince said.

These remarks were made in light of the spate of sexual abuse against children over the past few years.

Assistant Police Commissioner Clive Reyes told Newsday the death of four-year-old Emily Anamanthodo was unfortunate.

“We need to have systems put in place with these incidents,” Reyes said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Winston Cooper, told the pupils it was important for them to have goals.

“I do not want you to be one that we will arrest. Have dreams that you want to achieve,” Cooper said.

Several representatives from the schools pledged to the Commissioner of Police that they will honour and respect their country and obey the laws of the land.
