Saith: New fertiliser complex brings jobs

Speaking at a signing ceremony for the establishment of the complex at the Nalis building in Port-of-Spain, on Tuesday, Saith said the complex will be built on 28 acres of land at the Union Industrial Estate in La Brea.

The minister said construction would begin between July and December and it was estimated that 2,000 people would be employed directly during this phase of the project.

He said additional employment opportunities would be created in the service and support industries during the construction phase of the complex.

The complex will be commissioned in the first quarter of 2009 and will provide permanent employment for 125 people.

The minister said this project was one of seven energy sector projects amounting to an investment of US$7.4 billion and all of these projects represent the introduction of new industries and related infrastructure into TT.
