Support TT cricketers says Omar

TT, led by Daren Ganga won the Carib Beer Cup, as well as the Carib Beer International Shield, ending a 21-year drought of regional league cricket titles.

Khan said many people have not come to the realisation of the significance of the accomplishment by the national cricketers.

“I don’t think it has really soaked in yet, the great effort from our cricketers to win the double title has gone unrecognised and unrewarded.

“This effort by the T&T Cricket Board is commendable and I am calling on the supporters of the team, tocome out and purchase a ticket for the dinner,” Khan said.

Tickets for the event are reasonably priced at $125 per person.

Khan who also won the limited overs championships with the team in 2004, said it is unfortunate that the hard work of the cricketers has not gained the recognition it deserves.

“I was with these guys for the months they went out there and played and I can tell you, they

gave a hell of a lot for their country. They brought joy to many people by winning the two

titles and now is an ideal time for the fans to say thank you, by supporting this venture. “Remember the team has a lot of young players, most of whom are not working.

When we gave them something tangible, this would go a long way in helping them because the sport is an expensive one,” he said.

Chairman of the TTCB’s Marketing and Promotions Committee, Leo Doodnath reported that the board aims to raise nothing $60,000 for the players.

Tickets for the event can be purchased from any member of the TTCB, or at their head office in Balmain, Couva.
