Health caravan rolls into Dibe
St George West youth officer Rodney Browne explained the caravan was one of many being held throughout the country in accordance with a policy to deliver health services to young people.
“This is one of our drives to encourage healthy living among young people,” explained Browne. “We are trying to get the youths away from drugs and away from lifestyles that are unhealthy though they may be lucrative.”
Browne said the aim of the caravan was to encourage youths to live healthy lives and to find ways to earn money through legitimate forms.
This, he said, was achieved through such organisations as the National Entrepreneurship Development Company.
“These organizations are actually here to support the youths in their everyday lives. These companies are attempting to show the young people how to make legal, legitimate money.”
The caravan featured booths from the ministry, Optometrist Today, TT Cancer Society, the Rape Crisis Centre and others which offered free tests for HIV, blood pressure, blood sugar and eye exams. They also provided pamphlets on diseases and illnesses including HIV/AIDS and mental health.
The day’s activities also included performances by the Keylemanjaahro School of Arts and Culture, Koen Duncan, Surge and the People’s United Fellowship.
