Second man held in ATM robbery

Up to late yesterday, police had in custody a 45-year-old man. Police said that the man was assisting them in identifying two other men who are possibly linked to the heist.

The man, police said, has been in custody at the San Fernando CID since Sunday night.

On Monday, a Special Anti-Crime Unit Trinidad and Tobago (SAUTT) helicopter landed about midday at Skinner Park in San Fernando, and police officers escorted a handcuffed and masked robbery suspect to a heavily tinted unmarked police vehicle. The suspect, police said, was detained in Tobago during a major police exercise on the island over the weekend in connection with the ATM robbery.

Using a blow torch masked gunmen burnt out the holding bay of the ATM machine located at MS Food City Supermarket, Debe. The robbery was executed shortly after 2 am. Before robbing the ATM the bandits beat and robbed a watchman on the compound before escaping with the cash. Investigations are continuing.
