Cop, gunmen shot in Central

According to reports, members of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau, were on mobile patrol in Waterloo when around 10 pm, a gang of men opened fire on the officers.

The police sought cover and returned fire and two members of the gang were shot. Two others were arrested.

During the shooting, a policeman was shot. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope where he was treated and warded in stable condition.

The wounded bandits were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where they received emergency treatment. Two other men both from Champs Fleurs, were arrested and taken to Port-of-Spain where they were questioned at length and arrangements were being made to have them placed on several Identification Parades.

Police seized a pistol, shotgun and a quantity of ammunition in the incident and believed that they may have foiled a series of criminal activities including armed robbery with the interception and arrests. Investigations are continuing.
