Joe Public stay top in Pro League
Action in Round Two Match Day One took place on Tuesday evening, with the “Eastern Lions” Joe Public holding National Quarries North East Stars to a goalless draw at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.
North East, who started the day’s proceedings in second spot, slipped to third, swapping places with CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, who edged Starworld Strikers 1-0 in the second of back-to-back matches at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
Teenager Lester Peltier was the hero for Jabloteh, finding the back of the net in the 59th minute.
Reigning champs W Connection maintained fourth spot with a 1-0 triumph over United Petrotrin, courtesy of a 32nd minute strike from Andre Toussaint, while Superstar Rangers earned a similar result over cellar-placed Tobago United, with Todd Ryan netting the winner after 29 minutes.
But Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA rebounded from an early deficit to beat Defence Force 2-1 in the earlier match of the Couva double-header, with Devon Jorsling breaking the deadlock for the Army-Coast Guard combination in the 35th, but Caledonia responding with quick strikes from Kendall Jagdeosingh (46th) and Ryan Stewart (48th).
In related news, Toussaint was named as the Player of the Month of May while Jabloteh’s Terry Fenwick copped the Coach of the Month accolade.
Toussaint scored five goals for the “Savonetta lads” in both the league and the Pro Bowl fixtures while Fenwick, the former England defender, guided Jabloteh to victory, over Connection, in the Pro Bowl final last month.
