UNC Sando (West) backs Dookeran
Referring to charges that Dookeran had held meetings not authorised by the national executive, the south constituency retorted that Dookeran never initiated the May 17 UNC meeting at Canaan Presbyterian School in San Fernando. A statement from the constituency said: “Instead he was an invited guest at all of them.” They refuted charges by the national executive that Dookeran was causing divisiveness in the UNC. “The allegation of setting up a parallel organisation is a non-issue and a red herring. Any divisiveness is instead created by the selfish acts and deeds of certain members of the national executive.”
The constituency said some members of the national executive, and in particular the deputy political leaders, had acted in a way inimical to the party especially by disregarding the powers which the UNC Constitution bestows on the political leader, Dookeran.
“We call upon the recalcitrant officers to cease their wanton grab for power in the interests of the party and the country.”
The constituency urged the entire party to support Dookeran. The statement was signed by 11 executive members headed by chairman Amar Chadee.
