Cross issue not important

We keep hearing of a constant stream of complaints, protests, marches and demonstrations all over the country for all sorts of things, from the poor conditions of the roads, the worsening crime situation, the education system, the judicial system, the lack of pipe borne water to many parts of the country and a list of ills that could take a whole page to enumerate, not forgetting the proposed smelter plants and the increasing cost of food.

The matter of the “Trinity Cross” however which in reality is far less important or urgent to the majority of the population who like myself, have no hope whatever of becoming the recipient of, seems to have taken front and centre place in recent times, finding its way into the supreme court and the parliament of TT.

It is most unfortunate that persons like Mr Sat Maharaj should attach any form of religious significance to the cross which was in existence long before and after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and was in fact the method of execution in use in that part of the world and at that time.

Had Jesus Christ been put to death in this day and age, it would have been carried out either by hanging, the firing squad, electrocution, lethal injection or even stoning to death as is still practiced in some countries of the world.

The cross is in fact used in a variety of applications, from four points of the compass, the addition sign in mathematics, railway crossings, the emblem of the International Red Cross that offers aid to every individual regardless of creed, class or religion and is a symbol that even adorns the National Flag of certain countries.

In spite of all the unnecessary ranting and raving about the “Cross,” it will be here with us and indeed with the world long after Mr Sat Maharaj and the rest of us have long since passed on.

There are certainly many more urgent and demanding matters than the little old cross, that should be attracting the attention and energies of Mr Maharaj and others at this particular time in TT with the same degree of concern and vigour.
