Smoker burnt to death in bed
Police said Eric Seales, 44, had an argument with a close relative after which he allegedly feel asleep while smoking a cigarette.
A female relative and Seales’ 16-year-old daughter, Afeisa Scope, escaped unharmed when the fire broke out in the bedroom. Officers from the Arima Fire Station responded to the call and managed to bring the blaze under control. They found Seales’ corpse in the ruins.
Mena Mulchan, Seales’ mother-in-law, told Sunday Newsday that she was awoken from sleep by a relative who told her to call Fire Services because the house was on fire.
The Arima CID and the Fire Prevention Department are continuing the inquiries.
