Uram makes it look easy at Santa Rosa

Always well positioned, champion jockey Wilmer Galviz slipped the Jamaican-bred into the lead 400 metres out in the 1750 metres event, and he strolled to a comfortable 4 1/2 lengths victory over stablemate Latonia to give owner Elias Haloute and trainer John O’Brien a one-two.

On the day our “Soca Warriors” were holding mighty Sweden to a 0-0 draw, the day’s opener at Santa Rosa produced a stunning upset when Mystery Girl just held off Ready Or Not and Apocalypse.

The winner and second survived a slew of objections to reward backers with $40.40 and $5.40 on the tote.

Glenn Mendez had a a good day, saddling four winners on the eight-race card to be the top trainer of the day.

But two jockeys, Gary Laban and Rajpaul Rajkumar and apprentice Christopher Jadoo shared the riding honours with two winning rides each. Next racing day will be on Labour Day, June 19, when the feature race will be the Stud Farm Association National Stakes over 1800 metres with a purse of $60,000.
