Sancho, Aanensen disappointed

The dreadlocked Sancho had the misfortune of scoring an own-goal in the 25th minute, as he headed a free-kick into his own net.

But, in a television interview last night, the 29-year-old said, “everything happened so quickly, like a blur,” that when he attempted to head the ball to safety, it resulted in the own-goal.

Aanensen, the easy-going manager, added, “these things happen in sport, that happens in football.” Commenting on the match generally, Aanensen pointed out, “the guys are disappointed but they fought well.

“Things did not go our way but they did well and did the best that they could.”

But Aanensen was unable to give any information regarding the future of coach Leo Beenhakker, who took the team from the depths of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying to the FIFA World Cup for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago’s football history.
