Two killed:

Two men were murdered in two separate shootings at Laventille and Don Miguel Road, San Juan, between Wednesday night and early yesterday.

Police reports revealed that at about 10 pm on Wednesday, Sean Samuel, 32, of Don Miguel Road, San Juan, was walking close to his home when he was confronted by a man known to him.

Reports revealed that the gunman fired one shot at Samuel striking him in the chest. The gunman then fled the scene.

Police investigators told Newsday that Samuel was threatened by a man who accused him of ripping off some money they had stolen in a robbery.

Samuel was described by police as a suspect in several robberies.

Relatives of the dead man described Samuel as a friendly person despite his questionable lifestyle.

The second murder occurred at about 1 am yesterday.

Darren Pinto, alias James, left his Laventille Road home around 1 am yesterday telling relatives that he was going to purchase something to eat.

While walking along Laventille Road, close to a dumpster, one shot rang out and Pinto, 38, was shot once in the chest. He slumped to the ground in a pool of blood and died.

The body was viewed by a District Medical Officer who ordered its removal to the Forensic Sciences Centre. George Jones, a close friend of Pinto told Newsday that Pinto was released from prison two weeks ago after serving 18 months for robbery.

The father of three had confided in friends that he wanted to live a different life for the sake of his children.

He was also seeking employment to secure a better living for his family.

Jones said that he has no idea why his friend was killed but added that the senseless killings need to stop.

186 persons have been murdered for the year.
