‘The secret of success is humility’

These were the words of the great novelist Rudyard Kipling, which were echoed by Maureen Goolcharan, principal of Exchange Presbyterian School, Couva, at the school’s graduation function last Friday at the Balmain Presbyterian Church.

Goolcharan said that the school was “continuing to grow and develop and each new experience was a challenge to pupils’ skills and the creativity of the staff, thus demonstrating to us that teachers do affect eternity and you can never tell where his influence stops.”

She told the graduates, “The secret of success is seeing every setback as a stepping stone to ultimate achievement; the secret of success is being grateful for what you have, however little and not resenting life for what it has not given you.

“The secret of success is not making excuses for yourself when things go wrong but reflecting that God alone is infallible; the secret of success is understanding that you are the final measure of everything you accomplish and more than all, the secret of success is humility — realising that pride is the death of wisdom and the paralysis of every worthwhile endeavour.” The Principal’s Prize went to Kaara Sant. Over the past year the school has placed first in the Caroni Annual Diabetes Contest and second in the National Mental Mathematics Competition.

In sports it took first place in the Caroni Presta Games and placed first in the Caroni Table Tennis Competition in the Under 10 Division.
