Baptist School celebrates 25 years

Over the years the school has grown from humble beginnings keeping classes in churches, to two campuses - one in La Brea and the other, in Scaborough. The campuses expanded to a four-year, two-level programme of teaching members about their faith and their Christian heritage, and preparing them for life and ministry in their various communities.

The West Indian United Spiritual Baptist Sacred Order Incorporated was established on June 3, 1942 and incorporated on November 19, 1949, in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The school is the concept of Bishop Herman Parris, DD (Universal Life Church Inc California, USA). It is geared towards developing the skills of the Spiritual Baptist faith. It is an attempt to gather Spiritual Baptists together, strengthening their faith and identifying the way forward.

The school began operation in 1981 and classes were held in the church halls within the Diocese. In 1983, classes were moved to the present building, which was completed and consecrated on July 15, 1995.

The school aims to offer a programme of training for persons engaged in ministry; to equip a cadre of leaders with a deeper understanding of the Spiritual Baptist faith and to foster the spirit of ecumenism through partnerships with others of Christian calling.

A 25th anniversary celebration and thanksgiving service will be held on July 8 at the school’s compound, Chinese Village, La Brea.

At the ceremony - awards will be given to honour long and dedicated service, and a special dedication wall will be unveiled in the morning,. The thanksgiving service will begin around 1.30 pm. Two outstanding students, one past and one present, have been selected to deliver the sermon.
