Union asks PM for help

In a July 3 letter to the Prime Minister, CWU general secretary Lyle Townsend reminded Manning that at an April 3 meeting at Whitehall, he had given an undertaking to arrange a meeting between Saith and the union to discuss the state of affairs at TSTT.

Townsend said that meeting was supposed to have taken place three weeks from April 3 but three months have now passed without that meeting taking place.

He said in the interim, the state of industrial relations at TSTT have worsened with the company allegedly displaying disrespect for workers’ rights.

Townsend also said that on April 3, the Prime Minister said Government was in the process of determinining the strategic importance of TSTT to its developmental plans for TT.

Townsend reiterated the union’s call to Manning to organise an urgent meeting with Saith and was eagerly awaiting word from him about when that meeting would take place.
