Cops rescue teen rape victim

The teen was taken to hospital where she was medically examined by the district medical officer who forwarded a medical report to the police. The child’s mother has also been detained by police in connection with the stolen items.

The officers including Cpl Jankienanan, WPC Bridgemohan and PCs Ghouralal and Morris received certain information and went to a house in South Trinidad where they found two stolen cars and a quantity of musical equipment and mechanical tools which are also believed to have been stolen.

Two men and a woman were held at the house. Sources said while they were interviewing the female suspect’s 14-year-old daughter, she (the teen) told them that one of the male suspects had raped her on Sunday.

The man who is from Enterprise is expected to be charged with having unlawful sex with a minor plus possession of stolen items. The possession of stolen items charge is also expected to be laid against the rape victim’s mother and the other male suspect who hails from Cunupia.

The officers carried out the raid at about 4 am. A Nissan B12 and a Nissan March car were impounded by the officers.

Investigators told Newsday that the girl’s mother and the two men were unable to account for the stolen items. The trio are expected to appear in court today.
