Secretary killed in washroom

A 22-year-old secretary was stabbed to death in a washroom at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope, between 10.45 and 11 am yesterday.

The victim Nicole Gibson, of Maloney Gardens, was last seen alive at about10.45 am.

She was the personal secretary to Dr Brian Lushington who is in charge of Operation Rainbow, an organisation that is housed at the EWMSC.

Police reports revealed the young mother of two received a telephone call from a woman who identified herself as Leandra.

The woman told Gibson she had consumed a poisonous liquid and was in the toilet close to the main entrance.

Gibson told a co-worker what she was told and rushed to the area of the public washroom.

Police investigators believe Gibson was lured to her death.

She was stabbed once in the chest.

A member of the public who saw blood on the floor of the washroom alerted ASP Dubay and Sgt Baig.

Dr Mathura was summoned and he found Gibson had a weak pulse. Attempts were made to save the life of Gibson but she succumbed to the stab wound. The area was cordoned off and homicide officers went to the scene. Darrin Kerr, her husband, was contacted and he went to the scene. Employees, visitors and staff at the EWMSC remained traumatised over the death.

Police officers told Newsday Gibson had complained about threats to her life made by a woman.

Investigators detained a woman yesterday who they believe may be able to assist them in their investigations. Gibson’s co-workers described her as a quiet person who was respected by those who knew her.

Dr Lushington said yesterday that Gibson worked with him for three years and was very good with dealing with members of the public.

He said he was at a loss for words and traumatised over the death. Two hundred and nine people have been murdered for the year. Cpl Parks of the Homicide Bureau is investigating.
