Five scaffolding crash victims still warded

Three of the victims were discharged over the weekend.

Hayden Peters, and amputee Floyd Simmonds remain warded at ward 41.

Simmonds told Newsday that he remains hopeful that he will not lose his right leg.

He said doctors told him that despite extensive injuries to his right leg it appears to be healing properly.

He added that relatives and friends continue to be very supportive and he is anxious to get on with his life. Simmonds said he was also awaiting the arrival of his mother from the United States.

The other victim, Hayden Peters who suffered injuries to his left leg when the scaffolding collapsed is expected to undergo surgery today.

Last week Wednesday 20 workers on duty at a worksite at the Customs and Excise building, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, suffered injuries when the steel scaffolding collapsed causing the labourers to plunge to the concrete surface below.

An investigation into the incident is being carried out by NH International.
