Mayaro Spurs win bpTT title

The five-a-side tournament marked the formal opening of the 2006 season. Spurs blasted an impressive 40 goals in seven matches and emerged undefeated to capture the first place trophy and $500 cash prize.

Mafeking United and Mayaro Boys gave solid performances, placing second and third respectively.

Despite the rainy conditions, the teams displayed high levels of skill and sportsmanship in the hotly contested competition.

Tournament organiser, Razack Jan stated that the high level of football shown was a prelude to the upcoming league and knockout competition.

He thanked corporate sponsors bpTT for their continued support of football in Mayaro. “When the league kicks off on Monday, July 31 the Mayaro community will see an extremely high level of football. It will signal a return to the heyday of Mayaro football and will set the standard for years to come,” Jan stated.

Jan said the World Cup performance of the Trinidad and Tobago Soca Warriors should serve to revitalise the league. Team members Collin Samuel and Anthony Wolfe are products of the bpTT Mayaro Football League.
