CLEAN SHEETS AT ST ANN’S

Laundry workers were transported to Caura Hospital on Wednesday to sort, fold and pack linen and patients’ clothes which were sent from St Ann’s.

In an interview yesterday, General Manager of Mental Health Services, Errol Blackman said, “The clothes we had here were sorted and bagged so they just had to take them up and have them washed and dried and returned.”

He said the St Ann’s staff would return with the laundry yesterday. He said the sourcing of linen from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital helped prevent a “crisis” developing.

Blackman thanked the staff for their patience and resilience in enduring the stress of the past days.

He said complete refurbishment of the laundry is part of long-term plans.

Service at the laundry stopped on July 13 after workers began a “sit out” out of concern for their safety because the beam in the roof looked as if it would fall. In an interview earlier this week, Blackman said termites and water leaks had damaged the beam.
