NEW TRAFFIC BOOK FOR COPS

The launch of the handbook took place Thursday at The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Commerce head office, Westmoorings.

Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul who launched the book, said the book contains some of the penalties under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations Act 48.5.

Paul lamented the recent spate of road accidents citing that so far for the year, a recorded 122 road fatalities have occured.

He said “the new handbook will help crack down on traffic violators who would not see them (the police) coming since they are accustomed to identifying the police by the usual big clip board.”

Paul revealed that the new ticket book will come on stream later this year, since the Police Service is still engaged in talks with Attorney General John Jeremy to draft legislation pending its release. Paul congratulated the Chamber for providing new accommodation to Crime Stoppers which will now be housed in the Chamber building.

He said Crime Stoppers is an integral part of the police’s drive to cut down on crime and encouraged the public to keep reporting any suspected criminal activity.
