Man chopped in neighbour’s home

Shirlan Nead, 59, of Penal Rock Road, said she made two calls to the police after a cutlass-wielding man chased another man into her house and chopped him several times.

She said the police only came to her house around noon yesterday.

“People could have gotten killed and the police did not come,” Nead complained.

When Sunday Newsday contacted the Penal Police Station about the incident, a female police officer said she saw a telephone message written in red ink about the incident.

Asked why the police did not respond, the officer said, “I cannot account for what the police officers did ... that shift changed a long while ago.”

Nead said she was sitting in the gallery of her house when her neighbour ran into her house followed by a man armed with a cutlass.

She said when the man began chopping her neighbour, she tried to intervene but retreated after the man tried to chop her too. During the melee furniture and other household items were damaged.

The neighbour managed to run out of the house and hid in Nead’s yard and his assailant went in search of him.

The wounded man, Elvis Johnson, 27, who lives two house away from Nead, was chopped on his head, hand, shoulder and ribs and was treated overnight at the San Fernando General Hospital and discharged.
