Motorcyclist killed in Cedros

According to reports, Ramkhelawan was riding his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle in a northerly direction along Icacos Main Road.

As he was negotiating a bend along the road, he veered onto the right side of the road and crashed head-on with an eight-tonne dump truck which was at the time loaded with copra (dried coconut husk) and travelling in the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses said Ramkhelawan’s body was trapped in the chassis of the truck and he had to be pulled out from under the truck by paramedics of the Emergency Health Service who arrived on the scene within minutes.

District Medical Officer Dr Carmona visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the San Fernando mortuary. Cpl McDonald of the Cedros Police Station is continuing investigations. Ramkhelawan was identified by his mother and father, who journeyed from their home at about mid-morning to the scene upon learning of the fatal accident.

Meanwhile, police are continuing investigations into a three-vehicle crash in Oropouche yesterday morning. The incident occurred at about 9.45 am when a Honda Civic proceeding west along Dow Village (north), crashed into a wall.

The vehicle then slammed into a Nissan Sunny owned by Horrill Harrynarine of San Fernando, which was parked at the side of the wall.

That collision pushed Harrynarine’s car into the middle of the road where it was hit by a Subaru Forester SUV.

Driver of the SUV, Michael Vanderpool of Cemetery Street, South Oropouche, police reports stated, was heading in the opposite direction. PC Karmody is investigating.
