Mrs Persad-Bissessar displayed a no-nonsense stand indicating that she was not prepared to accept the President’s brand of consultation on so serious an issue. Mrs Persad-Bissessar did not only reject the President’s move to constructively suspend Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma, but she defended her position in a most brilliant way.

That position taken by Mrs Persad-Bissessar reinforced my position that Mrs Persad-Bissessar was the right choice to replace Basdeo Panday as Opposition Leader. Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s reaction to the President’s request, no doubt would have been the same reaction by Panday.

On the other hand, I am equally certain that Winston Dookeran would not have been able to muster the courage to tell His Excellency to his face that he was making a mistake and should re-consider. The UNC MPs who supported Mrs Persad-Bissessar for the post of Opposition Leader are vindicated. The UNC is in good hands with Mrs Persad-Bissessar!
