5 to attend model UN in Austria

Rea Catherine George (Head of Delegation), Danielle Lewis, Telshon McWellington, Niann Morris and Adama Wiltshire will be chaperoned at the conference by Theresa Neblett-Skinner, secretary of the Unesco Clubs Executive and a secondary school teacher, which is carded for August 6-10, 2006.

VIMUN provides the opportunity for young persons between 18 and 35 years to experience the world of the United Nations and its communities in the form of a simulation conference.

One of the expectations of attending the conference is the enhancement of their public speaking and debating skills and the opportunity for them to interact and discuss global issues with other young people from around the world.

Delegates were chosen from a selection of candidates who were short-listed from the Trinidad and Tobago Unesco Clubs. The criteria for selection, other than age and passport requirements, were participation in the local model UN and/or public speaking and debating competitions, adequate leadership ability, research and communication skills.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assisted in the selection process and the Minister of Education and President of the National Commission for Unesco approved their participation.

The delegates are currently in the process of seeking support and funding from the corporate sector in order to participate in VIMUN.
