URP queens
Ten URP regions were represented in the pageant including Port-of-Spain North, St Ann’s West and Chaguanas. The contestants represented countries in Africa and were judged in a talent category. Most of the women sang while the winner from Laventille performed a monologue and another danced.
The women were judged on three categories: formal wear of the country they represented, the intelligence contest and village wear — what women of the respective villages would wear.
The winner, Miss Ethiopia — Nedra Mc Clean — received a prize of $2,000. The second place prize of $1,500 went to Miss Sierra Leone, Shabyll Valdez and Miss Nigeria, Tienicia Babb received $1000 for her third place.
Tokens comprising of cosmetics were given to Babb who won Miss Amity, Shaunt? John — Most Photogenic and Shabyll Valdez — Miss Elegant.
