Former CJ’s driver beaten to death

Linton Strachan, of Diamond Vale, succumbed to his injuries after he was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH), by the police.

Strachan would have celebrated his 27th wedding anniversary with his wife, Jennifer, today. He was the father of three. “We didn’t make any formal plans to celebrate except we were going to buy fish in Carenage and then go to the grocery store,” Jennifer told Sunday Newsday from her Turquoise Avenue home.

She described her husband as an ordinary, humble, family man who was very loving. “He rarely left the house, he would stay home and listen to music. He spoiled me terribly,” she said. Jennifer said that she believed she suffered a premonition of her husband’s death, on Monday. “I saw a light bulb fall ten feet from the corner of the roof of the house, onto the ground, and it never broke. I know what it means now,” she related. Jennifer said that she visited him soon after she was informed by the police that her husband was at the hospital. “He was very delirious,” she said, “and I thank the workers at the hospital, they treated him very well at the Casualty and Emergency Room.”

According to police reports, at 10 pm, a woman was walking home from work at Papia Village, Maraval, when she saw a man attempting to make a telephone call at a phone booth, on Morne Coco Road. The woman heard a noise and when she turned around saw the man lying on the ground. She then noticed that he was bleeding from a wound to his head. The woman alerted the E999 Rapid Response Unit.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations and the Maraval Police Station also responded to the call. Strachan was rushed to the PoSGH, where he later died. The police revealed that Strachan was not robbed, as his wallet was recovered.
