PNM holds senior citizens luncheon

In addition to the 300-plus guests, the luncheon was also attended by party members, including Political Leader and Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Laventille MP Eulalie James, Culture Minister Joan Yuille-Williams and Social Development Minister, Anthony Roberts.

Guests were treated to a wide assortment of dishes including chicken, fish, rice and pasta and ice-cream for dessert. There was also an open bar and after sampling some of the beverages available, one of the guests was more than willing to show his dancing skills, even performing in front of the PM.

Manning himself congratulated the elderly guests on their contribution to the party over the years, saying that had it not been for the fine foundation they had laid, neither the party nor the country could have ended up quite as successful as it did.

He said: “It is always a pleasure to come to gatherings such as this to honour those that have gone before. When I look at what was obtained in those days as compared to now, there is a big difference. Today there is not only free primary and secondary education but also tertiary. Those here today can look on that as the fruits of your labour.

“You laid the foundation and if it was not well laid, we could not have done it. As we honour you today, we recall your contribution.”
