The power of words

It has the ability to change the course of our daily lives. It can either build us up high as a mountain or break us down as low as the dust. One powerful example of how effective words can be is in the word of God, in the book of Genesis, where you will see how God created the world by the power of His words. He created the heaven and the earth by his declaration of words.

As parents we sometimes get so upset with our children, that we start speaking negatively to them. We use words such as ‘stupid,’ ‘good-for-nothing’, ‘lazy’, ‘you’re just like your father,’ and I have even heard mothers call their daughters ‘whores,’ ‘sluts’ and so on.

Now we may think in our ignorance that these words would just evaporate into thin air.

Well think again. When these words go into a child’s mind, it mounts up to self-damage, such as low self-esteem. Even in the schools there are children who are being verbally abused by their teachers. Instead of being encouraged to excel they are told that they are ‘dunce’ and ‘hard-head’ and there are no hopes for learning in the future.

This is unacceptable. Sometimes all they need is an encouraging word, a tap on the back and so on. Words are like seeds, whatever you sow, so shall you reap. So if you sow negativity, you will reap low self-esteemed adults who won’t even look at themselves in the mirror. But if we sow positively, we can reap a generation of bright, bold, courageous adults, who can then pass on words that can then empower the next generation.
