Popular classical singer dies

Dindial succumbed to a massive heart attack and died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Tuesday August 8. Dindial is also known for transforming East Indian classical songs, such as “tumree” and “drupad,” into chutney songs.

He was the one responsible for taking soca and interweaving it into classical music.

The 61-year-old performer was the father of recording artistes Rasika Dindial and Hem Lata Dindial. He leaves to mourn his wife of 42 years, Dhanrajie Dindial, and three other children including Jairam, Lakshman and Linda.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
