2000:

Oct 12: YEMEN. Some 17 US servicemen were killed when the USS Coles was partially exploded in Yemen y al Qaeda.

2001: Sept 11: USA. The 9/11 attacks kill 2,986 people. Al Qaeda hijacked four US airliners crashed two nto the World Trade Centre in New York City and one into The Pentagon in Virginia, while another crashed nto a field in Pennsylvania.

Dec 22: UK. British citizen Richard Reid is subdued by passengers before he could detonate his shoe-bomb n American Airlines flight 63.

2002:

Oct 12: INDONESIA. The Bali bombing kills 202 people, mostly tourists and local hotel staff. Oct 23: USSIA. The Moscow theatre hostage crisis saw the death of 120 hostages and 40 terrorists during the escue attempt made three days later.

2003:

May 12: SAUDI ARABIA. Some 26 people were killed and 160 injured when Al Qaeda bombed US xpatriate housing compounds in Riyadh.

Aug 19: ISRAEL. A Hamas suicide bomber killed 23 Israelis and wounded 130 people when he detonated imself aboard a bus in Jerusalem.

2004:

Mar 2: IRAQ. Suicide bombers killed 181 people and wounded 500 at Shia holy sites.

Mar 11: SPAIN. Bombs on trains in Madrid killed 191 people and injured 1,500.

Sep 1-3: RUSSIA. 344 people were killed in the Beslan school hostage crisis in North Ossetia.

Dec 6: SAUDI ARABIA. Suspected al Qaedalinked group attacked the US consulate in

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, killing five local employees.

2005:

Jul 7: UK. Bombs exploded on three London Underground trains and a double-decker bus killing 56 people nd injuring 700 people in an act by home-grown suicide-bombers.

Jul 21: UK. Minor injuries were caused by small explosions when bombs failed to fully detonate in three ondon Underground trains and a double-decker bus.

Nov 9: JORDAN. Three explosions at an Amman hotel killed 60 people and injured 120.

2006:

Jul 11: INDIA. Several explosions on trains in Mubai killed 200 people and wounded 700.

Aug 10: UK. British police, tipped off by Pakistani police, foiled a plot to bomb multiple aircaft passing through London Heathrow.
