Drive to arrive alive

According to press reports, he lost control of his car which then turned over several times before hitting a light pole.

This indicates without doubt that he must have been travelling at a considerable rate of speed well in excess of the 80 kph limit.

Unfortunately, drivers in this country young and old do not seem to learn from the misfortunes of others and continue to break every law in the book relating to the road traffic ordinance.

Recently a young man who had just purchased a car (not his first) asked me if I could explain the reason for a constant beeping noise whenever he got to a certain speed? When I asked him how fast he was going when the beeping started, he told me that he was only doing about 105 kph at the time.

I then indicated to him that he was a dangerous driver to which he calmly replied that he never drove fast and that his brother was the fast driver in the family.

Apparently the drivers of this era have come to the conclusion that to arrive alive and late is unacceptable and have adopted the option of not arriving at all.

As a result of this widespread attitude, the death rate from vehicular accidents may quite possibly overtake the murder rate which is already totally unacceptable.

It might be well to consider that it is better to die from old age and in one piece than to depart this life suddenly and often mutilated in a vehicular accident long before your time. Drive safely and die from natural causes.
