Boat show draws many visitors

Boats competing in the 2006 race were on display at the National Stadium yesterday to give patrons a prelude to which boat they can expect to see in next week’s race.

Local Beer Giants Carib will celebrate 38 years as sponsors of the event which draws scores of people from every part of Trinidad and Tobago.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Power Boat Associa-tion Jean Stampfli who steered the winning SOUL REBEL to victory last year, will defend his title in this year’s race against local favourite MR SOLO.

MR SOLO which had been a previous winner of past races, placed fifth last year.

Stampfli said the great race event has contributed to Trinidad and Tobago’s popularity both locally and abroad as it draws an even bigger crowd every year from tourists and nationals alike. This year’s great race will take place on Saturday August 26 at 6.30 am.

Competitors of the event this year will converge at Pier 1, Chaguaramas where the boats will begin their journey to the finish line at Store Bay, Crown Point, Tobago.

Winners will be presented with trophies in a prize-giving ceremony which will take place at Store Bay.
