Mitchell’s strike, in the second match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, meant that the Eastern Lions remained atop the standings after 20 matches this season.

In the earlier clash at Arima, North East Stars slipped from second to third on the ten-team table after a 3-2 loss to Defence Force.

Ex-Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Stokely Mason put North East ahead after 11 minutes of play but Claude Adams equalised for the Army-Coast Guard combination in the 37th.

Guyanese forward Nigel Codrington restored North East’s lead in the 51st but Christian Baptiste tilted the match in Defence Force’s favour with a double, in the 68th and 71st minutes.

CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh switched places with North East after a 4-1 spanking of Tobago United at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

National forward Anthony Wolfe pushed his league-leading tally of goals to 14 with an early pair of items, in the 11th and 29th minutes, while his Trinidad and Tobago teammate Ian Gray stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 40th.

Gerron McKnight pulled one back for Tobago in the 58th but striker Kerry Noray completed Jabloteh’s victory with a strike 14 minutes from time.

W Connection took care of Starworld Strikers 4-2 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Veteran Anthony Rougier netted a 28th minute penalty for the hosts, before Gomez’s reply in the dying minutes.
