Common sense not distributed equitably

Neither can I see us returning to a safer life, like those ?litist days under British rule where everyone, from captain to cook, was under heavy manners.

Of course, that was before the more liberal and independent Westminster model was thrust upon us.

In retrospect, it appears that this democratic “one man, one vote, first past the post, winner take all” system was designed for a society with a much higher political IQ than ours.

Now, I am not implying that we Trinis are a dotish lot. Far from it.

But with our follow-the-leader “fete and freeness” foolishness, the culture of our politicking has descended to the visceral level of tribal symbols, party cards, overnight road-paving patronage, free T-shirts, “jump and wave” motorcades, and so on.

Luckily, there are still those among us who refuse to be swayed by such cosmetic distractions, and who remain focused on more serious matters, like unaccountable stewardship, misuse of executive power, gerrymandering, etc, etc.

But the painful reality about democracy is this.

Common sense is never distributed equitably among the electorate. Added to which, reason is no match for emotion.

So fellow belly-achers, stop knocking the Government. Take the xyz jamming and keep quiet! Remember, our parliamentarians did not elect themselves.
