Better to dwell in the wilderness

One of the basic emotional differences between the sexes is that men are basically “do-ers,” while women are “be-ers.” Obviously those traits would vary from person to person but evidence of this fundamental difference is found in the fact that men are essentially the achievers, while women generally prefer the less activistic role as of home maker. Even in professions and interests normally thought of as feminine, such as cooking, dress designing, musical composition, and a score of other areas, men dominate as leaders in the field. Some women generally do not posses the aggressive drive to motivate them to reach the top in many pursuits, except in rare instances. They do not lack the ability, but the drive. The male is the experimenter, the explorer, the director, builder, creator in most areas of human endeavour, though there are individual women who equal or surpass them in many instances. The exceptions of course are the overly dominant females and the overly passive males. And a relationship is like an investment you withdraw what you deposit and it is better to dwell in the wilderness than to dwell with a contentious and angry person. Most of us are somewhat reluctant to admit the degree to which we want to be love and understood.

It is almost as though to admit this would be a confession of weakness, or a blow to our self-esteem. And we surround ourselves with various layers of insulation.

We pretend a self-confidence we do not feel, or over-compensate in some way that is perfectly obvious to everyone but ourselves.
