Princes Town man drowns at Granville

It was at about 1.15 pm, when Bagarath, of Seegobin Trace, Palmyra Village, was seen eating and drinking on the beach. Friends told police Bagarath, holding a plate in his hand, walked into the water.

Within minutes, he was seen struggling to stay above the surface of the water which was a few feet deep. Police said two young women saw Bagarath floundering and went to his rescue.

The women, police said, pulled Bagarath to shore and performed CPR on him. They could not revive him. Other persons tried but Bagarath did not respond to resuscitation.

Newsday was told that an Emergency Health Services ambulance arrived at the beach about three hours after Bagarath was pulled from the water. District Medical Officer Dr Carmona pronounced the construction worker dead.

An autopsy performed at the San Fernando Mortuary yesterday revealed Bagarath died by drowning. Cpl Lester MacDonald of the Cedros Police Station is continuing investigations.
