Voyager Mall tenants search for new home

Voyager Mall was closed on December 31 and has reportedly been sold to the Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Udecott). Some tenants claimed last week that part of the mall will be incorporated into the new structure that Udecott intends to build on the site of the former Salvatori Building at the corner of Frederick Street and Independence Square.

When Newsday visited Voyager Mall yesterday, the doors were locked and signs were posted that said the mall was closed. One tenant claimed that once the mall was closed, tenants would not be allowed back on the premises to get their goods. Several stores inside the mall still had goods on display in their windows.

Staff at one of the remaining stores said they were uncertain where their business would be relocated to. Another tenant said she was still trying to contact the mall’s management about compensation and other matters. She said it was the management and not the prospective buyer who had to address those issues.

Efforts yesterday to contact Voyager Mall owner Dominic Hadeed for comment were unsuccessful. Hadeed is also the owner of the Gulf City Shopping Complex in La Romaine.
