Kangaloo hits birth certificate mischief
She cleared the air by saying that her Ministry would continue to issue computer-generated birth certificates for free for a person’s first application, after which each subsequent issue would cost $25.
She said since the computer-generated birth certificates were introduced in 2003, her Port-of-Spain and San Fernando offices had issued 256,504 certificates, with a further 80,000 being issued via the mail-in, mail-out scheme launched last year.
Kangaloo showed how demand had recently increased by saying that so far this month some 27,000 certificates had been issued, compared to just 15,000 last May. In fact on one day, January 17, her Ministry issued 3,202 birth certificates.
