TT docs want to come home

Speaking at the end of the opening ceremony for “On the Pulse” health career fair yesterday at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya, Rahael said: “Some have indicated they will be returning home and at least two have taken up positions. It is an encouraging situation and it is not an overnight solution. We are hoping because of the new migration laws in Europe, a number of them will choose to come back home.”

Asked if the Ministry had estimates on how many would return, Rahael could not say. Last December and February, Ministry officials met with doctors interested in returning home but they are waiting for their contracts to expire. They wanted to find out about opportunities and packages back at home.

He said the Ministry will not be able to match salaries paid in England and the US and indicated this to the overseas doctors.
