Glenn needs public grant
Chase claimed that officials at the Richmond Street branch of the Social Welfare Division, under the Social Development Ministry, lost his file on three occasions.
The man who has lived at the Centre for Socially Displaced People (CSDP), Riverside Plaza for about three years, added that he has been patient with the officials and even revisited a doctor to prove that he was still medically unfit to work. Chase, 49, experiences swelling in one of his legs, with protruding varicose veins that seemed unusually large. The other leg has a large hump. Chase added that his toes fold in painfully at times especially during the rainy season.
The man complained that the grant was his only source of “getting by” and since December he has borrowed money to make ends meet and to purchase his medication. Newsday contacted the corporate communications department of the Social Development Ministry but was unable to get any assistance. One of the officials said the person who could investigate the matter was unavailable. Unfortunately, several calls later, there was no response from that department.
