Maturana must be given full control
Watching Arsenal play at their new stadium last weekend, I heard the commentators say that Manager Arsene Wenger was “totally in charge” of the playing surface — length of grass, conditions underfoot — everything!
We must learn who must be “in charge” of the condition of the field for all our home matches. Can the Government agencies understand this, and co-operate in its implementation, please?
Our Young Warriors and Little Warriors have also been in action, building for their own qualifiers, and indeed for Brazil 2014 and maybe England 2018. On Wednesday evening, in the second match of a double header, the Under-19 Team played a friendly against El Salvador, both countries seeking to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Championships in Nigeria 2009.
Many of our youngsters were in the Under-17 squad which competed at FIFA U-17 Championships in South Korea last year.
They played El Salvador again on Thursday evening another double header, joining their U-16 brothers who played against the Brazil U-16 team, visiting us courtesy of the CBF, in honour of our Centennial.
The Brazilians then travelled to Tobago to play a Tobago selection, thus ensuring that Tobago is a meaningful part of the Centennial.
Football is indeed overflowing throughout our country!
