Joint display by three artists
Omowale is Sundiata’s twin brother, he lives in Barbados but from time to time he exhibits some of his work here. The curves of the net give this piece life and energy as the fisherman flings his net “Catching the Sun” shining on the water while “The Gift” has pagan religious overtones. One feels that, being an established artist, Omowale’s work needs no further comment. On the other hand, Karen Hale-Jackson’s work has improved to the point where one does not recognise the pieces as being by the same artist exhibiting a few years ago.
Photo-realism is her genre in this exhibition. “Ducks in a Row” is a delightful study of the Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust with ducks, knowing they are safe from hunters’ guns, waddling along the walkway across the lake.
“The Remains” is another beautiful, serene, piece that, like most of the rest of the works on exhibit, is affordable; in fact only two of the pieces on display are over (one a great deal over) $10,000 while one is as low as $1,250 and most between $2,000 and $7,000. Tessa Alexander uses glue, glitter and traces of collage to highlight her dramatic works on show in this exhibition. “Divali Lights II” is a riot of red monotones, unfortunately, my camera failed to pick up the glints of glitter in that and in the spectacular “Dream of Waterloo” with its threatening storm clouds, the flags fluttering around the temple, the sun sinking in the west.
Take note: “3 in I” continues at In 2 Art Ltd only until Friday.
