Merry Boys humiliate Barataria Ball Players
In the Group “A” duel, Merry Boys, the 2008 champions, posted 302 runs for nine wickets off their allotted 50 overs with Man of the Match, Barbadian Alcindo Holder, registering 143 while ex-Trinidad and Tobago players Lincoln Roberts and Aneil Kanhai hitting 28 and 25 respectively.
Barataria never had a chance against the pace of Kyron Lynch, who returned figures of eight wickets for 32 off 10 overs, as the hosts were bundled out for 55 in their run chase. In another high-scoring encounter, Caldrac whipped Defence Force by 93 runs at California.
Darren Choon blazed his way to an undefeated 103 off 51 balls, with 10 fours and eight sixes, as Caldrac amassed an imposing total of 306/6 off 50 overs. Krishna Deosaran chipped in with 88 (five fours and four sixes) and Anthony Ragoo 52 for Caldrac, while Nazim Ali was the leading bowler for the “Teteron lads” with 4/38 from 10 overs.
The Army-Coast Guard combination made a valiant reply, but were dismissed for 213 in 30.5 overs with Surujpaul Deosaran (3/19) and Choon (3/27) the chief destroyers.
Earnil Ryan led the way for Defence Force with 85 (seven fours and seven sixes) while Kerwyn Gonzales added 67 (one four and seven sixes). In a Group “D” fixture at Woodland, Rahamuts Evergreen Sports yesterday posted the largest total on the day, 343 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs against the hosts.
Krishna Narine lashed 132 while Ravindra Rampersad contributed 57 and Zaid Mohammed (53). But the result had to be decided by the match officials after rain interrupted the Woodland’s run chase, with the hosts tottering on 220 for nine in the 32nd over.
Officials eventually awarded Evergreen the win courtesy of the Duckworth/Lewis system (by a faster run rate).
Third round action will take place this Saturday.
