We are sum total of our experiences
We have arrived at that point where “himself” will have to charge “himself” and chair the investigation himself.
The cliques that we move in have come to a virtual standstill. The wealthy and upwardly mobile, send their children to the “right” junior schools.
These children progress to the leading colleges and usually form life long friendships. The friendships are binding as they share similar experiences like piano, ballet, swimming, judo and other private lessons.
After university, whether local or abroad, they return and automatically settle into the “right” sort of social sphere.
Voila! You now have groups of qualified individuals who share an unspoken loyalty to each other. They inter-marry and the bonds tighten. How to keep a secret, any secret, is an exercise in futility. We are all tied to “inside knowledge.”
This unspoken loyalty exists across the racial divide as race is not an important factor in the social equation. Money and “favours” are the currency.
It is only at election time that we get into our political carnival “sections.”
The ‘loyalty’ syndrome is even greater amongst those who exist outside the cliques as it is even more imperative to close ranks. It is the reason that gang warfare is a continuing problem, as, like the glitterati and the literati, the poor have no intentions of betraying or condemning their own.
A lack of sufficient evidence remains the reason we have difficulty in forming quick solutions for corrupt deeds committed in all strata of our society.
