Privatise Electrical Inspectorate

As a past Electrical Inspector, one has to understand the Electrical Inspectorate came into being long ago when, qualified, experienced tradesmen were hard to find, there was need for some one to oversee the Licensed Electrician or as a supervisor for the consumer.

We are now a technological society with licensed Electricians much more experienced than Inspectors, and many retired Electrical Inspectors, engineers, who can perform on contract better than some Electrical Inspectors, and be monitored in the same manner our Electrical Inspectors are monitored.

By privatising the Electrical Inspectorate, not only would the state save on finance, but the consumer would now be exposed to a larger pool of Inspectors, they will now have a choice. It is sad to see how many retired Electrical Inspectors, with vast knowledge, experience and skills are let out of the system, when with privatisation they could have been selected by the consumer, taking into consideration, competition increases, quality.

Privatisation would also ease the many hardships encountered by the sick and poor who cannot climb those stairs, with the ease of a phone they can have an electrical inspector visit their home and at a negotiable fee.

The public in general, would benefit from flexible working hours, and the ease of having to travel long distances to get an inspection done.

A motor vehicle with a defective tyre, can run off the road and create serious fatalities, yet the inspection of motor vehicles is privatised, a doctor can give the wrong medicine and create a fatality yet the doctor is allowed to run a private practice.

A lot of planning and research have been done by past administrations on the privatisation issue, but was held back, as many individuals in the department might have been involved in Electrical business, or competing for contracts with the contractors, privatisation would therefore decrease their status quo.
