PM sends his condolences to cop’s widow

Prime Minister Patrick Manning indicated yesterday that he would be calling former President Arthur NR Robinson as well as the widow of the late Acting Inspector Edward Williams to express his condolences and concern. Williams, who was Robinson’s bodyguard, was shot on Tuesday while waiting on the former head of state, who was attending a dinner party at the St Augustine home of UWI Dean, Marjorie Thorpe.

Manning gave every assurance that the State would do all in its power to apprehend the person/persons responsible for Williams’ death. The Prime Minister, who was tied up in meetings yesterday, also indicated that he would be speaking with the Police Commissioner on the matter. Williams, who was due to retire next year, was 54 years old. He was described by his colleague as a jovial person who was very hard-working.
