Change of mindset needed in Afro diaspora

THE EDITOR: I do not know if you have already seen the newspaper clippings regarding Canada’s new Governor-General who is of Haitian origin. We need a revolution in TT in the education and upbringing of the Afro-TT child. Go to any nursery school in TT and observe the babies, toddlers of Afro-descent.

They are fantastic, bright, talented, curious etc. By the time those tinymites reach their teens they have been folded, stapled and mutilated by a bad home, neighbourhood and society.

Putting up an African village in George VI Park to honour "Sacred Bones," wearing African clothes on Emancipation Day, wining and prancing to "African" drums are just so much rubbish as inviting African mis-leaders to TT at such times.

We need a revo of the mind — leadership training begins in the crib. We have to find ways to reverse the negative unimaginative, defeatist, mind set of the Afro-descent child.

The minds of the Afros were colonised at slavery time.

For it is cheaper and easier to chain a person’s mind and soul than to chain his body — and like a rat taking pellets of rat poison into its nest which will poison the baby rats, so Afro parents pass on the inferior slave mentality outlook to their children by both subliminal and overt teachings and behaviour.

Why is it that we have so many Afro persons who are psychologists in TT and why have they not banded together and come up with a strategy to reverse and uplift the thoughts and attitudes of the Afros? We can conquer the world if only we can conquer ourselves.
